Between Borders and Imagination: Crafting Literary Characters in a Globalised World

A conversation with Christine Leunens, the internationally celebrated author of Caging Skies - the novel that inspired the Oscar-winning film Jojo Rabbit - and In Amber’s Wake , currently in development for its own cinematic adaptation.

The conference will delve into two of Christine Leunens’ most compelling works to explore how writers navigate the political and historical landscapes of the past to craft characters that resonate across cultures.

From the life of a Hitler Youth boy set in the ruins of divided, post-war Vienna, to a love story unfolding amid French nuclear tests in the Pacific, we will trace how stories travel and acquire new meaning as they cross borders and mediums, captivating audiences worldwide.
